What is a Gran Fondo anyway?
The Caesars Head Challenge is being organized by Cycle4Life LLC based out of
Greenville, SC. and is a Gran Fondo event.

aka a scenic, mountainous course and add several thousand cyclists ranging from
pros to eighty-year-old cycle tourists. Mix in roving and fixed mechanical and medical
support, feed zones manned by cheerful volunteers serving up sandwiches, fruit, and
drinks, and traffic halted at intersections to let you pass. Garnish with enthusiastic and
supportive spectators lining the course. Top it off with coverage by major cycling
magazines. Energy, excitement, atmosphere!-- this is gran fondo, a phenomenon that
has taken Italy by storm. Gran fondo means long distance or great endurance. Some
cyclists ride for the satisfaction and pride of just making it to the finish line. Others want
to improve upon their previous times, and to challenge themselves, their friends, their
teammates. And some ride to win!

Last year, Caesars Head Challenge took into consideration all listed above and was
able to deliver several of the items listed such as, cheery volunteers, riders of all ages
(hundreds not thousands), mechanical and medical support, safe routes and lots of
great snacks and food along the way and a big BBQ feast with a river to cool off in
behind the scenic RV park where we all finished. Cycling media- JoE Silva was with us
from Velonews and many other pro cycling mags. This year we are expanding all
aspects of the rides offering all the great things we had last year with more.  Come out
and join us, bring a friend and you will be sure to make it each year from now on.
What is this ride?

As organizers, we have a love for cycling. It has brought us many friends, great
memories, and a healthy active lifestyle. We love the fact that we can go out and ride
100 miles. In fact, we are constantly looking for harder and harder routes to challenge
ourselves. That is where The Challenge was born. We want to showcase some of the
best cycling roads in the country. We want people to push themselves and work as
hard as we do. We want people to finish this ride, say "That was one of the hardest
things I have ever done. I can't wait to try it again!"

This ride follows many of the roads that we use for training everyday. They are low
traffic, challenging, and the roads are in good condition. You will push yourself on the
climbs, exhilarate yourself on the descents, and finish with a sense of huge
accomplishment.

It's also no secret that as a society, we are becoming unhealthier all the time. We want
this to become a goal for people. Sure, you might not be able to complete the 100
mile ride right now, but build up to it. Challenge yourself to start with the 35 mile ride
and build from there. We are hoping to bring people into the sport, show them that a
healthy lifestyle is fun, and not as painful as they thought. Best of yet, they can meet
like minded friends, friends that will encourage healthy behavior. We tend to mimic the
actions of our friends. If our friends are encouraging us in a positive manner, then we
all win.
Why should you come?

There are many reasons to come to The Challenge. There will be cyclists from ALL
levels here. There will definitely be somebody you can ride with, no matter which ride
you choose.

There is also:

This ride will also be helping the Globalbike Cause.
Started in 2006,
Globalbike currently has 260 bikes in operation. These bikes
collectively travel 1500 miles each day (the equivalent of 5 times across the state of
South Carolina) - providing critical support to young children managing as heads of
households and orphaned by HIV/AIDS.

We will be taking donations on the registration page and a portion of the ride proceeds
will be going to the
Globalbike Organization. This is a way that we can use our bicycles
for exercise, and help other people use bicycles to save lives. Even if you can not
make the ride this year, we encourage you to send a donation to
Globalbike. Just a
small donation can go towards providing medical care to those who couldn't have it
without a bicycle.

If you go to the
pre-reg registration page you will see a link to make a donation. 100%
of your donation goes to the
Globalbike organization to help provide bicycles to third
world countries.
